Hello BIRDLOVERS... Lorne Here...

1. The other day, in a shopping centre in Sydney, I came across an "Emu
Oil" stall. The woman there told me the emus were killed for the oil. I
objected. She said, "That's the way the world is!" I was angry. Does
anyone out there no more about farming emus and cruelty to these birds.
Are emus still moderately common in the wild?

2. The free flight bird show at Taronga Zoo is fantastic!! A Barking Owl
flying a metre above your head!! Incredible. Unfortunately, it was
Bruce, the Andean Condor's day off.

3. Birded at Mitchell Park, Cattai, yesterday... Rufous Fantail, Azure
and Sacred Kingfishers, Wonga Pigeon, Satin Bowerbird, Dollarbird,
Pallid Cuckoo, Grey Goshawk (I think)... no Night-herons (Surprisingly)
or Black Bitterns (as usual).

Cheers,

Lorne.
