SYDNEY (NSW) pelagic, Saturday, 27th September 1997

A successful beginners outing.  Bird wise an average September trip with
fine calm conditions throughout the day. Bird Species were down on previous
September trips probably because of the calm conditions.  Highlights for
most were the Hump-backed Whales and the Wandering Albatross. Also of
interest was an unidentified passerine and an unidentified wader seen
beyond the shelf.

Hall, Meagan Hicks, Mike Hillman, Tom Karplus, Cathy La-Fontane, Clive
Meadows, Tony Palliser, Snow Perry, Robert Quinan, Allan Richards, Neil
Russell, David Siems, Robin Sim, Paul Taylor, Andrew Stafford, Anne
Van-Roekel, Yvonne Worm.

Course and Conditions:
Departed harbour 0715 h; Returned 1500 h;  Headed directly East until
reaching the 30NM limit.  chummed mainly around 33 deg 58'S, 151 deg 45'E;
Water temp beyond the shelf 18.1 deg C. Fine and Calm seas to 1/2M; 5-7
knot winds mainly from the West.

Great-winged Petrel 7(2)
Providence Petrel 25+(10)
Short-tailed Shearwater 1
Wedge-tailed Shearwater 500+(300?)
Flesh-footed Shearwater 2(1)
Fluttering Shearwater 250+(50+?)
Hutton's Shearwater 30+(6)
Wandering Albatross 7-8(5) 4+ gibsoni? 1 antipodensis? bal unid?
Black-browed Albatross 5-6(4) all juvenile
Yellow-nosed Albatross 3(2) 1 adult
Australasian Gannet  8(4)
Silver Gull 10+ Most in the harbour
Crested Tern 10+ Most in the harbour
Little-pied Cormorant In the harbour

MAMMALS

Hump-backed Whale  up to 5(3) individuals
