Subject: | 4WDs on beaches - Request for Information |

I am asking for help in compiling information on the various state govt policies to 4WDs on beaches around Australia. Here in Tasmania we have seen a major increase in beach traffic - 4WDs, quad motor bikes, trail bikes, ag bikes etc etc in the last 10 to 15 years. In Tasmania, the policy is to permit 4WDs on beaches unless sign posted otherwise - in contrast to some/many ?/all ? mainland states where the policy is the reverse - beaches are off-limits to 4WDs unless sign posted. Can people please send me information on the policy for each state? Are there 'sacrificial' beaches that have been given to 4WDs to trash, and thus keeping them off other beaches? Are 4WDs a problem, or do they obey the regulations in place? Replies either to me directly at or via birding-aus. Thanks in advance Eric |
