Dear birders

Interesing sightings today 7th August off Wollongong.
List prepared by Lindsay. E. Smith and Captain Carl Loves.
(1.) Fire at sea, see above. On the trip out to the Burning Freighter, 
the Following
birds were observed.

Wandering Albatross  3 inshore, less than 3 miles to sea (1) Big White 
Bugger(BWB),
Diomedea exulans (chionoptera) 2 Gibsoni one of which was a sub-adult 
(Lepard stage)
Gibson Plumage Score 7.

Kelp Gull 3 one pair of adults 1 first winter bird in Wollongong Harbour,
Black-browed albatross 25+ many flying at considerable height over 100 
metres above the
sea, this is most unusual in this area . Wind speed approx 20 Knots from 
the N.W. flying
birds moving north into the wind.  Several small groups 1-3 birds on the 
water.
2-3 metre swell.

Fluttering shearwaters 2 (Brown-backed birds) worn plumage? Intresting to 
note many
thousands of birds last week LES.

Giant Cuttlefish (Sepia apama) plentiful on surface not enough birds to 
eat them?

Wedge-tailed shearwaters have not as yet returned.

NB. Ship still ablaze 22:30 Hrs E.S.T.
