Hi all,
I want to thank all of you who wrote in with suggestions for birding in the
Townsville area; we didn't have time to go everywhere but we got to three
diferent places and added several birds to our lists; notably
White-throated HE; Bridled HE and Chowchilla. We also had great views of
some other birds that we previously had only seen fleetingly such as
Victoria's riflebird (m& f) and Crimson Finch. Unfortunately, while we
found the Golden Bowerbird's bower, he didn't make an appearance. But all
in all, a great short break away from the worries of work and the bustle of
Sydney.
One item of note: Slater says the Forest Kingfisher is an uncommon resident
in the north; if Townsville is regarded as north we had an unusual weekend
then because we saw three all within 30 metres of one another at Cromarty
Siding. Perhaps that's not unusual there.
Again thanks to all who responded.
Cheers Bob Handfield
