I'm currently reading a very entertaining book, which is basically aimed
at the layperson, called "The Song of the Dodo-island biogeography in an
age of extinctions".It discusses habitat fragmentation & other issues in
a very readable style. You may not be interested in reading the book as
such but I think you might find the comprehensive bibliography quite
useful.I'd recommend the book if you the time, however.
