SYDNEY, NSW PELAGIC
TRIP REPORT 8th February 1997

Trip Summary:
A somewhat frustrating trip with fine hot and windy conditions making
the trip a little unpleasant for some. Rarities were sighted but
unfortunately the views were brief and distant. Highlights included
distant views of Gould's Petrel, Streaked Shearwater and a possible
sighting of a White-necked Petrel. For many the real highlight was
the sighting of a rare Fraser's Dolphin. At least certainly rare in
waters off Sydney. It was noted that the waters close in shore were
still very murky following a recent week of heavy rain. The lack of
Storm Petrels and particularly low numbers of Jaeger's was unexpected.

Conditions:
Fine.
Water temperature 23.7C once beyond the shelf.
Departed at 7.00 am and returned at 3.30 pm.
2.0 metre + swell.

North East later in the day.
