WOLLONGONG, NSW PELAGIC TRIP REPORT 26th January 1997

Trip Summary:
Almost a repeat of last weeks trip from Sydney. Again the birding was
great in many ways reminiscent of the trips during the early eighties.
Any trip with views of White-necked Petrel like those on this trip is
another pelagic never to be forgotten. The Grey Ternlets and the
Long-tailed Jaegers were also very confiding, hopefully with some great
photo's on the way. The day started by heading east in the usual
Wollongong manner and then stopping the boat and drifting North to
produce an oil slick once over the shelf. Pete managed to get a
distant view of a Tahiti Petrel to add the tally. Apologies to
Richard Yank and Keith Barnes who I know would have liked to have been
on board for this one.

Conditions:
Overcast but almost no rain.
Water temperature 21.5 - 22.7C once beyond the shelf.
Departed at 7.00 am and returned at 4.30 pm.
0.5 metre swell.
5 knot changeable winds predominantly from the East.
Reached 25.8 Nautical Miles E NE of Wollongong.

Those on Board:
Graham Barwell, Ron insidis, Tania Ireton, Pete Milburn, Bart Ostelleo,
