A couple of days ago I hit a Starling at 100 km/hr in my car. There were no
feathers visible in the rear-view mirror, so I reckoned it was stuck fast in
the grill. I thought, "it has to be dead" so I drove on to my destination
some 15 mins away. I had forgotten about it when 5 mins after stopping, I
walked round the front of the car to find the Starling standing on the ground,
It took fright and flew off. There was blood on the grill, so I guess the
poor bird (no I don't like them, but they don't deserve to suffer) would not
survive. It had to be the same bird, as no Starlings are ever seen at the
Observatory at 1100 metres.

PS Can I tick it on my observatory list? Sorry that is in bad taste.
