SYDNEY Pelagic Trip Report for 9th November 1996

Trip Summary:
The Black Petrels have arrived in numbers with 3 birds seen together.
Once again the oil slick worked wonders with the storm petrels. Both
White-faced and Wilson's Storm Petrels were attracted to within what
seemed like touching distance.

Great-winged Petrels and a few Providence Petrel were also attracted
to the boat, with one great-winged even deciding to land on board ready
for close inspection. Three Cattle Egrets were observed over the shelf
flying back towards Australia. Another highlight being the sighting of
up to four Gould's Petrels, a tick for many on board.

Conditions:
Fine.
Water temperature 18.5C once beyond the shelf.
Departed at 7.00 am and returned at 3.00 pm.
1-2 metre swell.
10-15 knot changeable winds predominently from the North East.
Reached 27 Nautical Miles E of Sydney Heads.
