Hi all
There was an excellent program on ABCs Quantum last night (19/9/96) which
looked at why there were more GS parrots on "Artemis?" station than in other
parts of North Queensland. Apparently it is all to do with a loose
symbiotic relationship between the parrots and man.

On this cattle station, the owners still do a fierce burn off, of the
grassland around the white ant mounds where the parrots nest and in doing
so, they keep the scrub away from the mounds.

In other areas where the burning is less fierce, the scrub is able to
encroach up near the white ant mounds and it is from the scrub that
Butcherbirds can more easily hide and swoop down to the nests.

Cheers
