We recorded a number of Great-winged Petrels (gouldii) off Wollongong on May 28 of this year. The main feature of this Australian breeding form is the fact that the white is more or less restricted to the loral area and does not extend below the bill. They are quite unusual for the NSW coast. I am tempted to speculate if there is a connection of these sightings with the unusual state of the Southern Ocean as represented by low Krill number and Pilchard kills.
