Summary
Many aquatic animals use underwater sound to communicate, forage, and navigate, and these important functions are increasingly threatened by underwater noise pollution. Cefas is highly engaged in
this scientific area. We undertake field- and desk-based research on the effects of noise on marine mammals, fish and invertebrates, and provide scientific advice to UK Government and regulators on the management of noise-generating activities (e.g. offshore
wind farms, seismic surveys). The purpose of this post is to support the growing noise and bioacoustics portfolio at Cefas and to augment the existing skills base of the Noise and Bioacoustics team.
You will be expected to provide key input into our noise and bioacoustics studies at all stages, from planning through to presentation and publication. You will further develop analytical methods
to determine implications of noise-related disturbance, contribute to impact assessments, and publish the results of your research in peer-reviewed journals and at scientific conferences. You will work closely with our principal underwater noise specialist
and mentor junior scientists. As an experienced scientist with an enthusiasm for applied research, you will be encouraged to seek new business opportunities in the UK and abroad.
Further information on Cefas Noise and Bioacoustics capabilities can be found on the Cefas website (https://www.cefas.co.uk/services/research-advice-and-consultancy/underwater-noise/)
and in our Capability Statement (https://www.cefas.co.uk/services/research-advice-and-consultancy/underwater-noise/noise-and-bioacoustics/).
Kind regards,
Nathan
