Post-doctoral position in ecology/physiology of acoustic communication
A post-doctoral position is available to work on the ecological & mechanistic bases of vocal production in rodents. The Pasch lab at Northern Arizona University (PI) & Riede lab at Midwestern University in Glendale, AZ (co-PI) study how ecology & physiology
interact to shape signal evolution. Our work incorporates perspectives from the field (radiotracking in the grasslands of AZ & cloud forests of Central America), laboratory (behavioral experiments on breeding colonies of wild-captured rodents), mesocosm (1400
sq. ft. indoor arena for automated tracking of voice & movement), & microscale (micro-CT & 3D morphometrics).
The NSF-funded (IOS 1755429) post-doc based in Flagstaff, AZ will contribute to our main grant aims (acoustic recording, animal tracking in the field & mesocosm, electrophysiological measurements of audition) in a clade of rodents (Subfamily Neotominae) with
underappreciated voices. In addition, the successful applicant is encouraged to develop new research directions, mentor students, & participate in outreach. A stipend for professional development will supplement a competitive salary & benefits.
Applicants must have a PhD by the time of hire, a strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals, excellent communication skills, & an interest in questions at the interface of behavior, ecology, & physiology. Applicants with experience in implementing
animal tracking software (e.g. Ethovision) & associated statistical analyses &/or electrophysiology are encouraged to apply. Proficiency in MATLAB & field research experience are preferred but not required.
For consideration, please email a single PDF, including a statement of research interests, CV, & contact information for three references to Bret Pasch The position is available immediately with
funding for 2 years dependent upon progress in year 1. Review of applications will begin immediately & continue until the position is filled.
