Associate Research Entomologist GS-0401-11.
This position requires a Ph.D in entomology or related field of study. Incumbent is an Associate Research Entomologist in the Crop Diseases, Pests and Genetics Research Unit, Parlier,
California. The incumbent will be responsible for identification and characterization of signals used in intraspecific communication of the insect vector
Homalodisca vitripennis. The objectives of the incumbent’s research are to 1) identify and describe
H. vitripennis vibrational signals and 2) collect and analyze vibrational signals of
H. vitripennis using insect acoustic detection instrumentation and insect acoustic signal analysis software.
Specific materials and methodologies to be employed include using a laser vibrometer, video surveillance equipment, and associated software. To achieve these objectives, the incumbent
must have a comprehensive understanding of the principles of insect communication, ecology, behavioral ecology, population ecology.
Knowledge of
techniques using acoustic detection instrumentation and spectral and temporal analyses
