Three Lectureships/Senior Lectureships in Psychology
School of Biological & Chemical Sciences
Queen Mary, University of London
QMUL1671

Strong candidates in any area relevant to biological and experimental
psychology will be considered, although we are especially keen now to
recruit expertise in Developmental psychology, Social/Evolutionary
psychology and Cognitive psychology.

Ranked very highly in the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise, Queen
Mary is one of the largest colleges in the University of London
and one of the UK's leading research-intensive institutions,
joining the Russell Group in 2012. The College has made a
strategic commitment to world-class research and teaching across
all its disciplines. Within Queen Mary, the School of Biological
and Chemical Sciences is a large and expanding academic unit,
which provides a supportive and friendly environment and
encourages interdisciplinary research. We are embarking on a 5
year programme of recruitment to invest in the acknowledged
strengths in the school and advance its areas of
internationally-competitive activity. The School extends from
Chemistry, through all aspects of Biology to Psychology. We have
strong links with other Schools within the Faculty as well as with
Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry. The School
is also embarking on an exciting joint venture with Nanchang
      University in biomedicine.

Applications are invited for three positions in the Psychology
Division.  Our programme approaches psychology as an experimental
science growing from roots in biology and considered in an
evolutionary framework. We are now looking for ambitious
research-driven candidates with strong track records of research
outputs and potential for funding who can develop links with
      existing staff.

Existing strengths include:
•    Particular expertise in animal cognition, language and
communication, and evolutionary and behavioural genomics.
•    A culture of high-impact collaborative research within the
      Division.
•    Strong links to other research centres and facilities at QM,
      including:
•    The Centre for Digital Music in the School of Electronic
      Engineering and Computer Sciences
•    The Augmented Human Interaction (AHI) laboratory,
collaboration between the Interaction, Media and Communication and
      the Computer Vision research groups.
•    Centre for Psychiatry
•    Centre for the History of the Emotions
•    Centre for Mind and Society
•    The Genome Centre
•    Centre for Cognitive Science

Existing research infrastructure includes facilities for EEG,
eyetracking, molecular biology and cell culture, and significant
      high-throughput computational resources. A newly-built, dedicated
“baby lab” is immediately available for research.

Strong candidates in any area relevant to biological and experimental
psychology will be considered, although we are especially keen now to recruit
expertise in Developmental psychology, Social/Evolutionary psychology and
Cognitive psychology. A competitive remuneration package and start-up funds are
negotiable.

The School is committed to Athena SWAN principles to promote women
in science; we positively welcome applications from women, who are
currently under-represented in the school. We will also be happy
to consider applications from people with their own funding who
wish to explore proleptic positions in the school.

The posts are full time and permanent starting in July 2013 or as
soon as possible thereafter. The salary will be in the range of
      £38,197 - £47,559 for Lecturers and £50,267 - £56,185 for Senior
Lecturers; per annum and will be in accordance with the
appointment level, subject to experience and qualifications.
Benefits include 30 days annual leave, childcare vouchers scheme,
defined benefit pension scheme and interest-free season ticket
      loan.
Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work
in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and
Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry
clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based
      Immigration Scheme.

interest in higher appointments up to Professor level should
