Dear All,
I currently have a PhD placement available here in our laboratories in Glasgow (details below).
I’m afraid the student would have to be a UK
national, or EU citizen resident in the UK for 3+ years. The placement
would involve insect bioacoustics and sensors, depending on the interests of
the student. Please feel free to forward this to anyone you think might be
interested.
Regards,
James.
PhD Opportunity: Bioacoustic sensors
and systems
The Centre for Ultrasonic Engineering, University of Strathclyde,
has recently begun research on the theme of animal ultrasound. As part of this
Dr James Windmill, formerly with the School
of Biological Sciences, University of Bristol, has now joined the group as a
lecturer. His research interests include insect auditory systems, bioacoustics
and sensors.
Anyone with an interest in PhD study in the broad area of bioacoustics should
contact Dr Windmill (details below).
The Centre for Ultrasonic Engineering is a lively team, with a typical
annual research income of £1-2 million. Originally started with interests in
sonar systems, the Centre has branched out into other ultrasonic applications,
and now has a particular interest in learning from biological ultrasound and
acoustic systems. The Department of Electronic & Electrical Engineering, University of Strathclyde is a high-rated
‘5’ research department. It is consistently rated in the top ten
electronic / electrical departments in the UK.
This studentship is open only to UK
students (or EU with 3 years UK
residency). They run for three and a half years. The Scholarships provide full support
for fees and a stipend (£12,940). The closing date for applications is the end
of September 2008.
