Engineer Position
The Florida State University Oceanography Department invites
applications for the position of Engineer. The successful candidate
will be responsible for the technical operation of the Cooperative
Institute field program, including several offshore monitoring
stations, and a regular CTD water-sampling section. Requires skills
appropriate to be able to assemble, test, and repair a wide range of
oceanographic instrumentation, including the electronic circuits and
mechanical housings for waterproof applications. The candidate should
have a basic understanding of instrumentation including sensors,
analog to digital converters, data loggers, and power supplies. Also
required is the ability to document the preparation and calibration of
equipment. The candidate must be physically capable and willing to go
to sea for extended periods; shiptime/
cruises vary and are generally days to weeks in length. At times the
job involves handling heavy equipment and the ability to perform
manual labor is required. The candidate should be self-motivated and
able to work independently. A bachelor?s degree in an area of
specialization; or a high school diploma and four years of appropriate
experience. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical
training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required
experience.
