Just saw this add on the web and thought a budding bioacoustician might be
interested. Please do not ask me about the studentships as I know nothing about
them. Contact details are in the ad.
Enjoy,

Research Studentships
Bioacoustics
Institute of Sound and Vibration Research
Stipend is at normal EPSRC rates (Only fees available for UK and EU students).
Two UK-EU PhD Studentships are available to work on a cross-disciplinary
project funded by the UK Research Council's Basic Technology Programme to
understand and then exploit the acoustical measurement and imaging techniques
used by bats and cetaceans to interact with their environment. The project is a
collaborative venture between the Universities of Edinburgh, Leeds, Leicester,
Southampton and Strathclyde and Fortkey Ltd and is co-ordinated by the British
Geological Survey. The ISVR team is working particularly with colleagues from
the University of Leeds (Department of Biology) to develop experimental
facilities to study echolocation and target discrimination in air. Other groups
will develop similar rigs to study bioacoustic signalling in water and in
particulates. A considerable degree of team interaction will be necessary and
it is important that the students can operate effectively in team research and
in either experimental or theoretical acoustics. The ability to w
ork across traditional subject boundaries is essential.
The project will begin 1 October 2006.
