I am organizing the following special session which has been approved for the
IEEE-sponsored International Symposium on Multimedia, December 11-13, 2006 in
San Diego, CA:

                  Remote Sensors for Audio Processing

Proceedings of the conference will be published by the IEEE and will be widely
available through IEEE's Explore database. I would like to attract a number of
submissions from bioacousticians; one of my hopes is to provide an opportunity
for increased discussion between bioacousticians and computer scientists &
engineers. I would encourage people to consider submitting a paper to this
special session. Complete papers of up to 8 pages should be submitted by
August 8, 2006.

Topics of interest include:

   * Audio classification and detection tasks for remote sensors (speech,
bioacoustics, auditory scene analysis, etc.)
   * Deployment issues
   * Power management
   * Networking/Storage/Data management
   * Array processing
   * Remote audio sensors in challenging environments
   * Applications of remote sensors with a significant audio component

Complete details on the special session and links to the conference can be
found at

Hope to see you in San Diego,
