Electronics Engineer
Major Duties:
The incumbent participates in developing a program to design and/or
employ innovative instrumentation such as Autonomous Underwater
Vehicles, Remotely Operated Vehicles, as well as optical and
acoustic sensors to survey fisheries resources and habitats on the
U.S. west coast. This task involves operating advanced technologies
at sea. The incumbent will be involved in processing and evaluating
data received from sensors. The incumbent also assists in the
planning and preparation for cruises and develops budgets and
research plans to support advanced technology research. The
incumbent advises the Division Director and Center leadership on
technologies applicable to fisheries research. The incumbent will
coordinate with an inter-programmatic research group to develop
methods to survey groundfish in untrawlable habitat. This will
involve collaboration with the fishing industry. The incumbent
may spend approximately 30 - 40 days at sea each year in support of
the project's field operations. During at-sea operations, the
incumbent may perform small boat operations. The incumbent must be
physically able to perform research aboard vessels at sea for
extended time periods in potentially hazardous weather conditions.
