POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT:
At the Research and Technology Center Westcoast, a central unit of the
Christian-Albrecht-University of Kiel, Germany, is a position to occupy as
of 01.09.2004 as a Researcher until 30.04.2007 within the frame of a soft
money project. The aims of the study are the use and comparison of visual
and acoustic methods for the assessment of harbour porpoise stocks within
auspices of the Research project MINOS plus "Further investigations on sea
birds and marine mammals for the assessment of Offshore-Windmills".
The weekly working time for the full time position is 38.5 hours. The
payment is according to the BAT IIa scale if the appropriate requirements
are fulfilled. The working place is Buesum.
Work field:
The work of the announced position includes the coordination, planning and
realisation of the research project, the test and use of the acoustic
devices from the ship, visual counting of harbour porpoises, the use of
stationary acoustic recordings systems (PODs), the evaluation and treatment
of data, the compilation of interim and final reports and the guidance of a
technician and students.
The work requires special knowledge in the field of bioacoustics and
distance sampling, computing, ability to work in a team and creativity.
Desired are experience in the use of motorboats at sea, the use of acoustic
devices and excellent abilities in German.
